The little blue pill will be taken by the women’s health group — the first of its kind in decades — after it was introduced to the market in 2010.
The women’s health group, which was formed in 2012, said the drug’s effectiveness and safety have been studied over the past decade. But it wasn’t until a year before the drug was developed that its safety and efficacy began to become clear.
The drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, has been working with the Food and Drug Administration to develop a new treatment for women whose symptoms — such as breast cancer or irregular periods — are worsened by a lack of regular exercise and the use of medications.
It’s the first such drug to have been approved for use in women.
“It’s just one more step to take,” said Cindy Whitehead, director of the Women’s Health Forum, which represents women’s health groups.
She said she expects the drug will be available by next year, but that she hopes it will be used only in the women who need it.
In a statement, Pfizer said it was concerned about potential side effects. It called the drug “the last frontier in women’s health”.
“We believe it’s the first drug approved for women’s health,” said Dr. Nachum Katlowitz, chief medical officer of the National Women’s Health Network. “We hope that this new treatment will lead to better understanding of the mechanisms and potential side effects of this medication.”
Pfizer, which has been buying the drug off the market for more than a decade, has been working with the FDA to ensure the drug is safe and effective, Katlowitz said.
“We are working with the FDA to ensure that this drug is safe for the population,” she said.
The drug’s manufacturer, Bayer, is also working with the FDA to develop a similar treatment.
In May, Pfizer’s patent for Viagra, which has expired in Europe, expired on the market. In June, it was approved for sale by the FDA in the United States.
Pfizer is also seeking FDA approval for a similar product, called Lipitor, which is in development as an alternative to Viagra.
Originally developed as a treatment for high blood pressure, Lipitor is now available in many countries, including the United States, for low blood pressure.
The drug, which has been approved for several other ailments, has been available in pharmacies since 1998, but its effectiveness has been questioned by some doctors.
“There are some people who can’t go to the pharmacy because they don’t have access to access to a prescription,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Johnson, president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
“The problem is, people are becoming very busy and they are not seeing what the doctors are talking about.”
Dr. Lauren Streicher, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Northwestern University, said the drug’s effectiveness has been studied over the past decade, but the study did not address its safety and efficacy. “It’s not clear whether Viagra would be the right treatment for women who need it,” Streicher said. “We don’t know.”
In June, Pfizer’s patent for Viagra expired in the United States.
The drug, which has been available for more than a decade, was first approved in 1998, but a second drug, called sildenafil, is now being developed as an alternative to the drug. Viagra is approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension.
Viagra is the drug’s first approved for women and was developed by Pfizer in 1989, when it was approved for use in the United States.
After the FDA approved Viagra for female sexual dysfunction, doctors began prescribing it as a treatment for pulmonary hypertension.
Originally developed as a treatment for high blood pressure, Pfizer acquired the drug in 1997, and it was approved for pulmonary hypertension in 2003.
Viagra’s safety and effectiveness have been studied over the past decade. But the study didn’t address its safety and efficacy.
